mr2 surging problem

Hello All!

I have a problem that I cannot figure out the solution to. The car runs great when it is cold. But as soon as it warms up it begins to stumble and eventually dies. If I restart it, it runs great for 20-30 seconds and then starts stumbling and surging again. I checked the diagnostic codes, and it flashed 11 times which is supposed to be "idle switch OFF". What does that mean? Anyone know? Is this my problem? Why would it run so good when its cold if this is my problem?

Also, If this is my problem, I assume that I have to adjust the TPS. Any advice on that process?

Initially I thought there was air in the coolant but I have flushed it twice and no change.....

I greatly appreciate any help you have to offer.

Thanks in advance.
Ben

check all the vaccume lines for cracks as when the engine heats up they expand and only then cause a problem also any gaskets or places like the tb for leaks.

also could you tell us what year and or engine you have .... i can tell it's pre-1995

It is a 1987 Toyota MR2 4 cyl. N/A 1.6 ltr. (Manual Tranny)

I think it is air in the coolant. I'm trying to bleed the air from the coolant system in order to see if that takes care of it. But, I appreciate your input. I'm going to check the vacuum hoses and gaskets too. Some of the vacuum switching valves aren't testing 100% accurate on the ohmmeter, but I think they still work. Anyway..thanks again...if flushing the coolant doesn't work, I'll get back to you for some more help.....is this a common problem?

Best Regards,
Ben
