AW11 Owner needs: HELP!

Hi All,

I recently purchased an 86' AW11, the engine being blown we had it replaced with a 16V engine from Japan, but used the same 5spd tranny, which was mint i.e. new clutch, good synchros etc etc. While testing the car out, after the install, we noticed that the tranny was popping out of fourth gear and having trouble getting into 5th...we obviously informed the mechanic (who said the tranny was dead), so we decided to tell him we'll be back. We drove it home and realised that the car wasn't going into reverse either! In fact when put into the reverse position it was rolling forward?!...I read on some forums that this could be a linkage or a shifter cable problem?- Any ideas????? (tranny oil? linkages? shifter cables? ?????)

Thanks a bunch!

Jon

p.s. you can email me at jonratnasamy@hotmail.com if necessary

check to see that both shifter cables are connected to the tranny. Maybe one popped out of the joint. Look in the area between the battery and exhaust manifold.

it's fixed now! Apparently when the mechanic's who installed the engine put everything back together they didn't tighten something near/having to do with the tranny so it was an easy fix. However, with the gears popping out I found out that it is because of worn input and output shafts in the tranny itself, its supposedly a problem seen in the AW11 C-50 tranny's and can only be prevented with regular tranny oil maintenance! Thanks for the replies, see you all on the street sometime
