91 Mr2 Rip

yes I became "that guy" on wednesday... hydroplaned off the road head on into a tree. Just warning you guys, Don't focus on building a killer motor and ignore 13 year old suspension especially shocks, old tires, and worn brakes. If anybody has a spare SW20 MR2 body lyin around with no engine, or a blow motor, let me know. Also has anybody put sandbags in the front trunk to give the tires a little more bite? Thanks to everyone and safe driving...

Generally speaking, sports cars tend to have wider tires which increases the likelihood of hydroplaning. Wider tires tend to trap water in the center. Bascially a wider tire can not evacuate water as fast as narrower tires.

Wider, worn tires is even worse.

I have used (in the winter) two 5 gallon drums of roof tar in the rear trunk to plant the tail of the MR2 down to get traction in extremely deep snow. As MRQ said, when it's wet you need to be very cautious in an MR2.

Sorry to hear about your car, but at least nothin happened to ya. I learned about driving slower in the rain the hard way just last week. I hydroplaned downhill and hit the curb at 45mph. I should be thankful the only damage was to the alignment.
