newbie front caliper question

Hi I just bought a '92 NA. I noticed the front brake pads were low so I decided to replace them. I noticed the pads had worn uneven. There was almost no pad left at the bottoms. After I reassembled everything I noticed that both front wheels did not move freely to the point the car could stop by itself on a hill and remain stopped. After further examination I noticed that on both sides the bottom caliper pin did not slide at all. Even a rubber mallet wasnt enough to persude it to move like the top pins. The wheels didnt lock up though after the tapping. Since it was my first time with the brakes, my question is this. The bottom pin should move right? The caliper should be able to "float" with the rotor right? I was looking for some input before I drop it off at the brake shop. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to move the caliper freely. Your caliper is sized. Next time you do your brake, make sure you clean and lub the slide pins.

Both pins needed to be cleaned. Get a wire brush and clean the pins. The holes are harder to clean. I just pour some gasoline onto a small piece of cloth. On the bottom pin, insert the cloth at one end and out the other...do it a few times until the inside is clean. On the top pin, just use the cloth again but use something to poke it around. That should get both pins and holes cleaned.

You can get caliper rebuild kits from Toyota for $20 for the front.
