pulling engine...should we pull engine+transaxle?

we have an engine hoist, and are planning to pull the engine, would it be easier to just pull the whole thing (engine transaxel etc)?

when I pulled mine out I left the engine and tranny together. It will fit out the top if you take the engine lid off. just make sure everything is disconnceted including the a/c compressor lines...(that was the only problem I had).....if you are going to take it out the bottem what i did the second time was hoist the engine up a little bit then set it on the ground and the I hooked the hoist on the the passenger side engine mount and raised the car up and then pulled the engine out from under the car....hope this helps

Dropping it out the bottom will be much easier than pulling it out the top.

Yeah i did this about 5 times today when pulling my engine and putting it back in today. Just put bolts through the 2 side engine mounts but put the chain through the bolt and bolt the bolt in so it doesnt fall out. Use common sesne here. And when you put the engine back in, be sure that when you raise it up, slide the engine and tranny underneath in the way it should be facing. Then remember to lower the car kinda low, it will be easier this way becuase the mounts wont be on an angle, they willbe straight .

Unbolt the front and two side engine mounts, leave the rear because it is mounted to the subframe, unbolt the 4 subframe bolts, then unbolt your struts. disconnect all sensors , shift cables, e-brake, clutch line, and lateral links, once these are all done the whole subframe will drop from the bottom. ALT., AC comp. and intercooler must come out before removal. I swapped my 91 na with JDM 3SGTE Gen2.

So you mean you can raise the rear of the car from the side engine mounts with an engine hoist?

actually our method involved going to the industrail process control plant that my dad owns and using a forklift and a crane...got the job done no sweat...lifted it up attached the chains to the crane and dropped it down (wheels and all)...
