anyone have an electronic ignition?

is there any way that we can get rid of the distributor? has anyone ever gone to a distributor-less ignititon like found in modern cars....trying to minimize moving parts

Not unless you use stand alone ECU. Unles you can find a way to connect the ignition to stock ECU or bypass it. Disy and ECU control spark timing and fuel injection.

i was actually thinking along the lines a stand alone...ive been told they cost upwards of 1000 but thats ok...just looking for suggestion...otherwise time to replace dist.

HA. Getting rid of that distributor is not as easy as you may think. your distributor is driven by the cam, and if you were to get a DIS (direct ignition system) you would have to have some kind of stand alone ECU and you must add a crank position and cam position sensor. Unless you got the cash you should replace your plugs, wires, cap, rotor and you may or may not have to replace your coil( you should test the coil with DVOM)

coil checked ok...the cap is ok too...we already did plugs and wires...rotor is on the list....i just dont like ditsributers at all...
