Question Mechanic ripped me off with a so called 91 Mr2 refurbished engine.

Had my engine changed in my 91 MR2, about 2 months ago. The engine is supposed to be a refurbished and I paid the mechanic a lot of money for the engine and labor. As soon as I got my car back, it started experiencing problems. The guy has never given me paperwork that shows the price he paid for the engine. He gave me a yellow warranty paper that is generic enough to have come from anywhere. How can I tell if the engine is really a reconditioned engine? I feel bad because I believe that I was taken advantage of because I'm female and mechanically ignorant. When I took it to the dealer for an inspection and second opinion, they told me it looked like a used engine. My car is still having problems. It is cutting off at every stop sign and red light. The dealer said the air valve is sticking and that's why its cutting off. They also say that the power steering fluid case is cracked and needs replacing, and the hoses need to be changed.

Where is a good website to order parts for 91 Mr2 so I don't pay dealer markup?

First off, go back to your mechanic and inform him that your "refurbished/rebuilt" engine is not running properly. Ask him what he replaced. Customers always have the right to know what they paid for. For major work, I would only trust very few experienced mechanic to work on my MR2.

A cheap place to get OEM MR2 parts is partznet.com.

u should take the car to another mechanic that u can trust.....get them to do a leak down test and a compression test to determine the health of the motor....the problem that most ppls have when doing an engine swap is that although your supplier may claim that the motor has only XXXX of mileage it may have more or less....the motor could prolly have been in crappy condition before it even went into your car...

what problems were u having with the car in the first place that u needed a new engine?...are u having the same problems??....

Try cleaning the throttle body with throttle body cleaner. After the intake pipe is removed, there will be 2 holes at the bottom of the throttle body. Spray lots of cleaner in there to clean the air valve, ICV-Idle Control Valve to be exact.

How exactly is the car behaving, during start up, idle, acceleration, ect.? If you can diagnose exactly what the car is doing wrong, your technician can find what the problems is and if the Tech is dishonest and is selling you parts that does not fix the car don't pay for them, the Tech CANNOT put any parts on the car without consent by the owner, you have to be confident in your self. The car could be cutting out due to something more simple than a valve sticking, it could be your fuel system, ignition system and worse case situation engine internals. So drive the car and pay attention in extream detail to any problems and tell your technician exactly what you experienced, this can save you alot of time and headache.
