Question looking at getting an MR2...

i currently own a pontiac fiero and love the thing, i am puttin a new engine in it an need something more fuel efficient to drive daily (i know the fiero and mr2 are kinda rivals but in this time w/ so few midengine cars we need to unite!! lol)

also, i cannot stand the sucky handling of other cars that i have driven, nothing compares to that midengine feel!

what i need to know is what to look for. where to look. and how much i should pay.

Thanks in advance
Travis

lol thats exactly what i would like to know, i don't know anything about MR2's really, i just want something that handles good, gets decent gas milage, and is fairly fast, i kinda like the idea of the turbo

if you could get me info/pics on each one, or decribe their features that'd be cool, and are there any years i should stay away from? anything thats commonly wrong w/ them that i should watch for?

i like the second gen. (i think) like the one in ur sig... i don't like the older ones and i can't afford the newest ones

Thanks,
Travis

Don't like the older ones? haha....you would if it were SUPERCHARGED! Ok...,this is what I think...Older N/A's handle good and are quite fast (I have one) , I would assume a S/C version would be faster than a regular 1991 Mr2, and it is. The new ones are too "girly like" and have a lower end engine. So in my opinion you should get a supercharged mr2 '88-89 or a turbocharged like the one in his sig. In Mr2's...there's nothing better than those 2 versions.

MK1 Supercharged
MK2 Turbo

Red face

awesome, i think i'm leanin twards a turbo one, MKII Turbo, are there any years to stay away from???

how come i don't see very many coupes or ones w/ sunroofs? they look the best IMO, but i don't mind the T-Tops i'd pry just end up painting them the same as the car..

does anyone have any for sale or know of any? i'm lookin at spendin somewhere around $4,000 hopefully less, i know how to work on cars and stuff so little things wrong is no biggie i just need a reliable car

and are there any sweet engine swaps out there? or do ppl usually just modify the stock engine? (i kno theres one person w/ a Northstar but it sticks through the firewall, it was on the fiero forum)

thanks for your help,
Travis

People tend to like the 93+ models better.... but if you are looking to spend less than $4k.... look for a '91. In '93 they changed the brakes and suspension up a bit.... so they are less 'uncontrolable' if you will.... once you get used to the car it's not an issue... but some people like to complain about it. '94+ got different tail lights and a different wing... but once again.... you arne't going to find a '94+ (not even a non-turbo) for under $4k.

The 3sgte is capable of lots of power.... but the 1mzfe V6 (Camry/Solara engine) is becoming a more and more popular swap. Some people prefer the steady power delivery of a NA or Supercharged engine.

The Northstar V8 is in a MKI Mr2...... http://v8mr2.com ... he actually owns the main message board... http://mr2oc.com
