I have some Qs about jdm 3sgte swap and prices? Do I need........

I have a ton of questions about a jdm 3sgte into the SW20 mr2

1.First of all, what are the differences between 2nd generation and 3rd generation 3sgte's?

2.How much would a 3rd generation 3sgte clip cost ?

3.what company do you guys trust the most?

4.I heard that jdm engines come with a MAP sensor instead of a MAF sensor. Is that better or worse?

5.Will 93 octane work WELL with the jdm ecu that is rated at 103 octane for premium, or will I need a standalone ecu?

6.Will a usdm 3sgte service manual work for the jdm 3sgte like torque specs, part locations, etc?

7.Are most (if not all) of the jdm 3sgte parts interchangeable with the usdm 3sgte parts?

8.What wiring modifications will I need to complete a swap like this?

9. Will I need any other physical/electrical/plummbing/etc modifications to accomidate the jdm 3sgte?

Thanks

First question would be what are you swapping from? I'm assuming an NA.... so here it goes....

1. 2nd gen is 225hp.... 3rd gen is 245hp. 3rd gen has a different turbo, no afm.... pretty sure most of, if not all of the internals are different. If you are shooting for high power.... there is no great advantage in either one. Pretty sure all 3rd gen's have an LSD also.

2. 3rd gen clip is ~$3,500.

3. http://mr2warehouse.com

4. Dunno

5. Yep

6. As long as its not the 3rd gen.... yes.

7. Same as above.... excluding the turbo.... they have ceramic turbines.

8. If you get a complete wiring harness from the kick panel back.... you should be fine.

9. Make sure you get the intercooler, afm (if 2nd gen), intake piping, intercooler, bov, ecu, fuel pump (different from NA), coil and ignitor.... a lot of things that sit around the outside of the engine show up missing a lot.

Thanks for the info!!! you cleared alot of things up for me. The second generaton clip sounds promising (especially for $2500). I think that the mr2 warhouse also said that the 2 gen had an lsd too (ill find out about that). Oh and yeah, I was refering to the na mr2. I guess I ment sw21.

Some 2nd gen motors came with LSD and some didn't..... MR2 Warehouse carries a lot of 2nd gen's with LSD though.

um all mr2's have the same turbo the difference is in the pistons, a later model 3sgte have 8.5:1 or 8.8:1 not totally sure, in other words the boost is higher not bc of the turbo but bc of the lower compressed pistons.

^ No bud....

USDM Turbos are all steel wheels.
JDM Turbos are ceramic wheels.
Then the JDM Turbo in the 3rd gen (refered to as a ct20b) is ceramic and a better design.... it will spool to redline.

3rd GEN in OBD2 wich makes it harder to work around computer restriction and also has MAP opposed theGEN1and2 MAFS: 1st and 2nd are OBD1. Personally the 3rd gen is not worth the extra 800-1200 dollars, the 2gen is the best bang for the buck.

^ You can... but I dont think it would be worth it. Most Celicas had an A2A top mount intercooler which would not work well at all in the MR2.... so you would need an intercooler and piping. Plus the tranny you would get with a Celica clip would also be useless to you. I would imagine that the intake piping would be different too.

^ Just get an MR2 half cut or complete clip. It will come with the tranny and everything you need to complete the swap.
