Question high RPMs?

I'm still trying to get to know the mr2 but is it my car only or is it normal for mr2 to run so high on rpms. I'm doing 70 mph and is going 4.5 rpms is that normal?

If it's a MKI, that's probably about right. If it's a MKII, it should be around 3500rpm at 70mph for the N/A.

At 80 I am just a little hair under 4k rpms so that sounds a little high.

in 5th gear, 3000 RPM should be 60mph, 3500 should be70mph,4000 RPM should be 80 MPH. or at least very very close. if not, speedometer cable(if it has one) could be on it's way out or clutch maybe be slipping a little

How high can the 3sgte mr2 safely rev without the rev limiter on the stock internals?
Or how about with aftermarket pistons, rods, camshafts, etc?

anything beyond redline is pushing it. valve float and detonation are probably the 2 major concerns. there are other concerns too. some of the of other guys on this forum would probably know more about it in detail. i rarely rev my '91 T beyond redline.

power falls off about 1500 rpm before redline anyway. No need to go to the redline. Stop playing video games.
