So I have always been warned about the 91 Turbo's manifold and it's tendency to warp. Well, it finally happened. Would it be worth it to go ahead and buy an aftermarket manifold, or just stick with the OEM manifold?
dont know if this helps you but i think RaceTEP sells ported and stress relieved stock manifolds that are supposed to flow quite well, i've heard of some people using a ported stock manifold for quite big power numbers

mine warped too and I replaced it with OEM.(about $300.00US) the tube type will crack-no matter how thick the steel is. 91RED3S may have a good idea with the modified OEM manifold. of course porting will thin the walls some...
Yeah, upgrading to a CT27 eventually. But I don't want to go through another warped manifold even sooner because I bought one with thinned out walls. I'll just stick with the OEM. Thanks for the input.
[QUOTE]Turbo cars have tubular manifolds, not headers ... and there is no need for one on the 3SGTE atthe power levels 99% of us will see.
Getting a tubular manifold is just opening youself up to frustration when it does end up cracking (and it will).
They are pretty, not proven to show worthwhile benefits on the 3SGTE.

My thoughts and expereince are plenty of people have pushed well beyond 400 rwhp on the OEM exhaust manifold and I plan no shooting for 450 rwhp on it.
If it's not broke, don't fix it

Right now I still have the factory manifold ... but, I know there is a company that is making tubular manifold for the 3SGTE and they are confident that it will not crack. They have contacted me about testing it since I do a diverse range of racing situations. At this point, I am 95% sure this is going to happen.
I hope for my sake, they are correct. I've seen what they are doing and I have seen what they have done differently ... we will see if it woks
I have seen stainless steel manifolds TIG welded and 3/8" thickness that they said will "NEVER" crack. I was going to get one but 3 things stopped me. 1.) They didn't offer a written guarantee for their guaranteed not to crack manifold. 2.) they were going for $1,000.00 to $1,100.00!...3.) reading this forum and your opion plus all my tech friends tell me that it would have to be one hell of a manifold to hold up under those temperatures and that I would be better off with the OEM. so given all those variables, I have decided to stick with OEM. plus I'm only gonna go for 275 rwhp using the advice of MR2 power primer. though I own 3 vehicles, I like driving the '91 turbo the most. so I want to keep it simple and reliable. it goes plenty fast to get me in trouble. Oh, and good luck! hope it all goes well.
I completely understand ... I wouldn't be testing this piece if I was concerned about not having my car to drive. I always have Jekyl and if this piece does crack, the OEM manifold will just get thrown back on.
