I am currently in Japan, and since I've been here I have grown to like the MR2. I will be returning to the states in a year or so, and I'm considering bring a couple cars home. I bought a 1990 NA, with less than 50k (km) for $2000. Anyway, do you think that it would be a good investment/project to take to the states?
If anyone has any thoughts/opinions/ideas for me I greatly appreciate it! Thank you!
Thanks for the hits, guys. I actually plan on registering it in MI. The 1990 MR2 is on the NHSTA's list of eligible vehicles for import. I'll have saved up enough cash before I leave here, so I'll be bringing a couple cars home with me.
On another note, if you folks ever have the opportunity to go to Japan, do not pass it up...It's a blast!!!
I see...so thats $4,000.00 for a '90na with 50K km-so that would be 30,000 miles. that sounds ok. thats very low mileage for a '90 . you could probably find a '90 MR2 NA here in the states in that price range, but not likely with that low mileage. I assume that would be a righthand driver? have you considered that in respect to the standard lefthand here? I think if I were driving somewhere the standard is right and I'm use to left, it would take me awhile to get use to that. thats if I didn't fu*k up first....
I wish I had good news.... but I've looked into the importation of jdm cars... just check out this site: www.batfa.com they have a great selection... and for the price of DIRT..... shipping to my closest port (new orleans) was $750..... but batfa was not the problem... it was the registration\emissions\saftey\importation broker\port storage fees..... that's where I decided against it. but, if I had money lying around for that type of thing...... then absolutely, go for it.
Thanks for the replys! The cool thing about my situation, is I don't have to pay to ship the car (Military pays for it). But after doing some research, I am probably not going to bring the NA to the states. I'm going to find me a turbo or 2 to bring home...with as many parts as I can get my hands on.
the hassles u will encounter with trying to register a rhd car isn't worth it IMO.....save your money and find a turbo in the states when you're back....
