oh geeze, the rust is a bit too bad at this point. You can even notice the discoloration around the fender flare as well. Might as well get a new quarter panel, or else your "quick fix" will only be a waste of time and money. Or you could cut the rusted section off, find a fender from another mki, cut off a matching section, and weld on the new, then you would need bondo, paint, etc. For all that trouble, might as well replace the entire thing. Salt is the devil....sorry bro.
The discolouration is some red rust paint that the previous owner had on the car...The kid who had it before decided against rust proofing and drove the car often in our wonderful canadian winter... I came across this: http://www.mr2-solutions.com/rear_overarch_kits.html , do you think this might work? Also, I plan on storing her in winter, so salt won't get a chance... if i do have to change the quarter panel, do you think i'd be able to get one used, i.e off someone's car? How much does that usually cost... thanks a bunch
No, it won't adhere if the fender continues to rust. Yes you can find a used quarter panel in a junk yard. Price depends soley on the particular junkyard. Look around at diff junkyards for a better price. good luck.
sorry, but like MRQ said, you'll either have to replace the quarter panel or tons of bondo. The only other option I can think of is to cut both side fender flares and make(or buy) new wider flares that look cool...
yeah, my cousin suggested cutting all four fenders off and either weld or pop-rivet fenders from a car with wider fenders (like a celica supra or sthing)...is that feasible?
yeah, if the curvature is correct. they sell fender flares that can be put on the same way or you can make some from fiberglass. why do the front though?
you may not even have to cut depending on the flares. just get rid of any rust and seal it. then maybe the flares will hide the old stuff... good luck. hey, post pics when ur done
why are u againest replacing the entire q/p??....are u looking for the cheapest alternative to fixing this problem??....if u plan on keeping the car for another few years....spend the money now to STOP the rust from spreading and fixing it properly....if not...don't bother spending money on it and just let rust away.....
