ey everyone. i will be installing a smaller diameter steering and will be removing the airbag. What pin / resistor should i put in the place of the airbag clip so that the airbag light doesnt light up? thanks
it's illegal and not recommended--------make sure to disconnect the battery for atleast 45 seconds before messing aroung there,
DO NOT USE AN OHMMETER ON THE BAG CONNECTORS, assuming you figure out how to defeat the safety interlock any current going in there may subsequently and instantly cause the thing to go off which can kill you, paralyze you, or turn you into a drooling vegatable. Buddy, if you are smart you would take the unfucked- with car to an autobody shop who will retrieve it for you and buy it -- you would probably get a few hundred dollars for it if THEY were to remove it. If you were to remove it, it would probably have no value due to liability concerns.

Simple answer... "I don't know".. LOL
Here are the pinouts for the connector going to the airbag... I don't know what the resistance is to shut the light off but try jumping it with different types of resistors... NOTE.. this is on the steering wheel side... NOT the airbag...
there is a link on this website for the full service proceedure for the 1994 camry, the diagrams look very similar. the airbags contain a small amount or ecxplosives hence the concern. The manual is 153 pages long --on just the supplemental restraint system. The wait from disconnecting the battery is 90 seconds not 45. I don't see why you wouldn't consider having it salvaged, a perfect working vintage airbag can fetch up to a thousand dollars.
Just note that it's a federal offense to remove mandated safety equipment. They fine you a couple thousand dollars for doing so.
First off, thanks for your replies. I understand all your points in the lawfulness of maintaining the vehicle airbags. So i did a little digging and this is what i found.. The said mandate signed by, then president, bush was not ratified until 1991 and was not enforceable to manufactured vehicles pre 1994. Such a mandate required all vehicles from 1994 + to be fitted with a drivers side airbag. My car was manufactured in 1991. I believe such a mandate is not applicable to my vehicle. if I was fined in accordance to the 1994 mandate, I belive that is in violation of unenforceable expost facto laws.....Click on the links below for additional info.

I had researched this 3 years ago and what I found was that, in the United States, it is against Federal law to remove an air bag during commerce.
Basically, you can not PAY (commerce) someone to remove your air bag.
The owner of the vehicle is legally allowed to remove the air bag themselves.
