MR2 MK1 supercharged differences

hi i am looking at importing a MR2 MK1 AW11 supercharged 4A-GE from japan as they are much cheaper than in Aus. there has been a recent rule change and i can not import the 1989 model only the 1988 or earlier. naturally i will go for the 88 as its the newest i can legally import. but i am just wondering what the main and minor differences between the 88 and 89 model of these MR2's i am also wondering what the stock (without supercharger) MR2's horsepower and quater mile is and the comparison the with supercharger MR2 horse power and quater times are also do the MR2's have powere sterring cos if they dont adding larger wheels say 17's may reduce the controll of the car any info would be greatly appreciated

88/89 mr2 supercharged motors are the 145hp version.... also come with a much stronger tranny and much larger axles.... the 88/89 have larger brakes than the 85/86 mr2's...

stock s/c mr2 should pull around a 15 flat

Ok the good news is that 88 and 89 MR2 SC's are mechanically the same. The differences are cosmetically minor, like body matched mirrors/door handles and a change to LED wing mounted brake light.

Sorry to hear about the change in your laws, go for a 87 or 88 Japanese spec G-Limited MR2 SC if you can find one (the two tone white/grey is my fave...)

oops forgot to mention the 89's had a rear anti-sway bar fitted, 85 and 89 MR2's are the only models that came factory fitted. You can always retro-fit them later on if you want.
