I know next to nothing about MR2's, but I want to sell my Camry to get a MKII MR2. I don't know how to drive stick, and I don't really care to learn...but I want a Turbo MR2. If I get the auto MKII, which would be non-turbo with the 5SFE engine. If I'm able to do a 3SGTE swap, would I need to do a tranny swap to, making it stick?
Like I said, I don't know shit about MR2's...in fact, I don't know shit about cars, period.
the amount of money you will have to put into making an auto NA into a 5 speed turbo swap....you will be better off to just start off by buying a turbo in the first place....if u have no desire to learn how to drive a manual....then i don't think that the mr2 is the best suited car for you.....

. I just love the way the car looks. And I can't really afford a new car or anything like that. I was looking into something nice, other than my Camry...and I want to stay in the Toyota family.
well, a 3SGTE only had 1 auto tranny attatched to it, and i'ts in the Caldina GT-4, of course this is an AWD tranny, so im not sure if you can convert it to be used in an MR application...
or, you can swap in a 1mz-fe, and supercharge it..
if you cant afford the supercharger, it's okay, a 1mz-fe makes almost identical hp and tq numbers as a stock 3sgte...
personally, that's what im going to do...
have the only supercharged auto MK2 MR2..

Hell, even if it has nothing but a 5SFE it'll still be an MR2...that's what I want. After I get it (if I do), then I'll worry about speed and modding it.
Automatic MR2's are pretty hard to find. You should just learn to drive stick.... it's really not that hard. I taught my 12 year old sister the basics in about 30 minutes on a long flat road. I personally learned in a geo when I was about 10 on a dirt road.... its probably easier than you think. I made my gf learn stick.... she hated it with a passion.... and now shes driving around a 5spd MKII.
I agree, stick is something everyone should learn. I'm teaching my wife right now. She's the timid shy type who thinks they can't learn anything and she's taken it quite well. The hardest part about learning to drive stick is starting from a dead stop going up hill =)
just get the turbo w/5 speed and learn to drive it.. once u get the hang of it-you'll love it...they're a kick to drive-even stock...and like u said, they look really cool
lol whats so hard about doing more then one thing... put it in a high gear and just cruise around youll have 2 free hands.
