Driver side rear squeaks really loud when braking

Hey guys,

I just bought my first MR2 (91T with 164xxx miles) last week and i've noticed that it squeaks really loud when I brake to come to a stop. This harder I press on the brakes, the louder the squeaking would get. It sounds like the squeaking is coming from the spring compressing but the noise doesn't come when I hit bumps so i'm not too sure. I intend to change to H&T bushings soon and a set of fairly inexpensive 93+ spring/shock for future reference but would like to know if the sound these. Does it sound like it's the brake pad and does anyone know how much it would be to replace the pads. Anyone happen to know what might be wrong? Thanks a bunch guys.

my first guess would be brake pads. usually around $50.00 installed if you don't have to turn rotors or any other complications. The sooner you take care of it , the cheaper it will be..

it could possibly be your "squeel shim" warning that your brake pads are ready to be changed..... a pretty simple job. and from what you're describing, I wouldn't say that the suspension has any problems if it only squeeks when you apply the brakes....
do a quick check... pull your wheel off and see if the brake pads are worn past their limit...
