Alright guys, i am new to the mr2 world but am pretty good with the Aw11 engines. I have had two ae86 corolla's so the 4age is nothing new. But the AW11 I just got has a 5sfe swap...yeah. From my research this is fairly rare. And it is supprisingly quick. But i am looking to built a cemi-competitive autoX, friday night drag car. So basically I need (want) more power. I have read that cams will liven the engine up, so i was wondering if there were any good places to send these to be re-ground for a reasonable price. I have also read that there were turbo versions of this engine or a similar one. I would like more details on these engines and if they are really rare or hard to find ( would like to hi-jack the system). Any help will be appreciated.
what supercharging system is available? I not really interested in swapping in another engine. I think with the right mods i can get a nice broad power curve with the 5sfe engine and make a capable car. I am solely interested in working with what i got, i think it will be something different. i could use names of companies that make parts or web sites of other cars like mine. Like i said i dont' have much experience with this car or engine. But i am not automotive slouch.
Rippmodds makes a supercharger. Your can piece together your own turbo kit if you wanted from 3sgte parts. The most hp from a NA 5SFE is something like 135rwhp.... not too impressive IMO. It would probably be pretty nice in an MKI though.
Yes that is what i meant and thank u for the reply on that. what are average boost levels run on these engines with a turbo setup. Sorry for all the newbie q's.
I think if you are intercooled.... you will still want to keep it under 8psi. One of our fellow TN'rs from the Camry section had a little problem with boost spike on his 5SFTE (thats what we call the turbo'd 5sfe just for future reference) and has to rebuild his whole engine now . I would suggest running some sort of water injection system if you plan on turboing the 5s. Some people have okay success.... but keep those boost levels low if you don't plan on rebuilding the engine beforehand.
Hey guys thanks for all the help, i am still having trouble finding this supercharging system. If anyone knows an adress or something please hit me up.
