Another disaster with the mr

hey ive ran into yet another problem with my 2, I was drivin along and my battery light came on so i was like oh crap here goes another alternator so i start driving home nad i barley made it the car died in the driveway lol. Well i get my alternator and im gettin ready to put it in and i notice a wire hanging off. The WHOLE wiring harness rotted in HALF!! Does this happen often to the 5sfe? Thank god i have a parts car that i spend a good hour taking the WHOLE harness off the engine (this is the harness that goes from the ecu, the intake, the fuel injectors, alternator,... ect basically its the main harness) But anyway is this common??

was is rotted or did some rats eat the harness, when i got my duce there was rat sh** in my engine bay. I dont think that it is really a common problem.

When I bought mine I found the harness was chewed just above the intercooler, the harnes was burried in leaves and there was a nest inside. The car was kept in a garage and was off the road for the winter? the toyota dealer just cut and spliced it, not a big job they said you could get a new harnes but it would be to costly.

mine rotted through the 2 10 guage wires running to the alternator. rotted completely through. these are 10 GUAGE WIRES!!!! lol. It wasnt rubbing against anything and it happened about a foot from the alternator just under the intake so it is almost impossible to detect due to gross shit all over it. lol. I drive mine just about everywhere becasue i kinda have to i dont have anything else to drive, besides its too fun not to drive!!

i dunno bout the wiring harness but my 5s burned through 4 alt's in 2 years... turned out it was a short. You should get your mechanic to check it out... burned out harness sounds like too much heat=too much current=short

This is not a common problem in the 5S's. It may have something to do with the climate that the car has been through in it's lifetime.
