very high idle rpm when it's warm

Hello there.

My '92 MR2 nonturbo manual idles at very high rpm when it's warm. When I step on the gas at neutral, it revs at, say, 4000rpm and won't come down! When i start driving again and in between gear shift it'd rev very high as well.

Does anyone know why?

I've recently cleaned the fuel injuection system and throttle body unit. Didn't help.

I did notice there's a spring on the throttle body, and it's kinda loose. Is the spring supposed to pull the mechanism back when I take my foot off the gas pedal?

Thanks!!!
Cortez

there's an idle adjuster on the throttlebody. Turn the screw and see what happens.

If that doesnt work it could be a dirty throttle body. Try cleaning that out.

It sounds like a return spring problem to me. When you manually throttle the engine it shouls spring back with pretty good force to it original position. If it doesn't do that, then this could be your problem.
