this is maybe a semi dumb question, but i was thinking of adding a second smaller intercooler after the stock IC on my '91 MR2 turbo for additional cooling. My question is do u think there would be a significant pressure drop? I can get a smaller good one for cheap(cuz I'm cheap) and thought about adding it instead of spending a bunch of money on a whole new IC set up..it's just a thought and i would like to hear some of your opinions..has anyone else ever tried this?
I'm sure it would cause a little lag... but only because it has farther, more restricted space to travel through... but the temperature drop might be enough to counter-act the drop.... all in all.... I DON"T KNOW
1) there won't be sufficient temp drop to outweigh the pressure drop
2) where are you going to mount the second intercooler as the engine bay is already overcrowded?
3) More beneficial and cost effective to go with aftermarket kit, such as GReddy or Spearco.
I don't believe i have ever came across a setup like this maybe b/c it doesn't work. Go with aftermarket sidemount or trunkmount so you won't feel stupid when adding another intercooler does nothing but add lag and weight.
[QUOTE=mr2trd]hahaha....sorry but that is a ridiculous idea.
whoa, dude, just dawg me!! it was just a thought.. and thats why I put it out there. so i could get u guys opinions. plus I'm a cheap bastard. I had thought about doing a top mount using the strut tower bars and a couple of the extra bolt holes on the head. and mounting a Spal fan underneath the engine lid. but I guess it's "ridiculous"... just my imagination working overtime. In my business I always try to inspire the imagination and never dismiss any of my employees ideas as ridiculous(no matter how stupid)...but thats just me..I have been considering the Greddy IC kit for awhile...which is probably what I'll end up doing..along w/water injection
hey ... I hear that... us cheap bastards gotta stand together. I have a larger 6"x4"x24" intercooler out of an audi if you're interested. I'll try to get some pictures once my cheap-ass gets a camera.

sure. where are the inlet/outlets located at on the IC?
mr2bad, the inlet and outlet are both located on the same side..... say the top... the top is 6 inches wide, and four inches deep.... and about 24 inches to the other end. I stopped by walmart to buy a camera.. and of course... the only one I wanted was sold out.. I'll look for one today and get some pics to you.
It's cool. Thats why I said semi dumb question...and u guys are always helpful. full of usefull info. but if I don't know then I ask the guys who do.even at the risk of sounding ignorant. I have learned much from this forum and the people in it. thank you and all the others for being there.. TN rocks
I just checked out your cardomain page. Your MR2 is looking nice. I like the sideskirts...looks a lot like the Border skirts. I'm hoping to put a kit on this summer. GReddy kit with TOM's rear bumper. Some 94+ tail lights, TRD wing, monochromatic scheme like 94+, dropped, and some wheels like yours. Props for you nice looking 2.
thanks...those are copies of the border skirt. bad ones at that. one side was over an inch to short and I (we) had to extend them.I'd like to drop it too but I can barely get a jack under it now. If I let someone else change my oil, they have to have a pit cuz the front lip is so low and won't clear a ramp.anyway, sounds like u got a plan. plz post pics when it's done.all those mods together will look hot..
as long as we're on the topic, I have a 91 Supra Turbo and I think my intercooler has a crack in it (the former owner got a little carried away when reinstalling it) and I was wondering if one I saw on ebay would fit it's 24.5"X3"X12" any help would be grr8!
