brake SQUEEL is driving me crazy!

ok... I purchased and replaced all four disks ( drilled\slotted ) and brake pads.... so about a week later... .freakin squeeling makes me want to curb the car to shut it up . so I was looking through my FSM and noticed.... um... where the hell are my pad retainers\antisqueel shims\ wear indicators.... I have nothing but the brake pad and caliper on there! so I've ordered a brake hardware kit from Advanced auto... it includes all of the retainers\shims\wear indicators... this should cure my "banshee brakes" shoudn't it?

ok... I spent $40 on those flammin "anti squeel shims" and guess what... oh YEAH... still SCREEECHING. starting to go crazy. could it be the drilled\slotted rotors causing this? I also caked the pads with the anti-sieze\anti-squeel lubricant... still nothing. I guess I'm just gonna have to go deaf or something.

what kind of brake pads did you get? e.g. - ceramic, semi-metallic? that does make a difference sometimes.

sorry... not anti-sieze.. you know the stuff.... I think they call it "stop squeel" just a generic paste to put on the back of the brake pads to keep them from chattering against the piston\calliper housing...

and I bought semi-metallic pads...
I was downtown last night in the pouring RAIN... no squeeling.. probobly just the extra moisture in the air......but those brakes bite like hell!

OK, hey, the more metal, the more squeeling. Doc j&h recommended some pads in one of his posts. that might be the way to go. sounds like metal content may be the prob. since it went away in the rain...ceramic and organic ones may be another option. i don't think they last as long

get softer brake pads...they may go quicker but better stopping and they dont wreck the rotor....

did you lubricate your shims when you put them on? you pretty much have to lube up every contact point aside from the pad-to-rotor. the semi-metallic pads shouldn't really sqeel any. just make sure you(your brakes) are properly "lubricated"...lol.

the kit came with a bunch of retainer springs... and they don't fit. so all I ended up using was the shims, and a lot of lube

what brand pads did you buy? i thought the pads came with wear tabs on them, always have in my case. was your stock hardware worn out? cause you should've been able to use it.

I know how you feel about this. I just finally got rid of mine. Well forst it was my brake pads so I changed those, but still. Then I machined my rotors and still I had squeek from one rotor. In the end it turned out that because of too much heat some of my break pads had cracked and was causing the pads to be uneven.
