Tubular Manifold being tested on Hyde (not for power)
At the request of Berk Technology, I will be testing one of their tubular manifolds. It arrived yesterday, see photos below.
With all that is being done to Hyde over the winter, along with the cost of tuning time with a standalone, it will not be cost-effective to do a before & after dyno of just the manifold. I wish this were possible, but it is just not feasible considering the deadlines I am under to get the car done.
What Berk Technology is interested in testing on Hyde, is their manifold's ability to resist cracking. Considering the variety of racing that Hyde will be put through; drag, hill climbs and autocross, this should be an ample test to how their welds hold up.
I'll post some more photos once the manifold is in.
I have no specualtion on spool or power ... I am changing a lot of things all at once, so there will be no way of knowing what exact performance change this manifold will make. They are just interested in seeing if it will hold up to abuse.
I record everything. I have at least one video camera and one still camera working each run. I have an actual pitcrew this year so I will be getting footage from track level.
If you want to see lots of footage of Hyde (2 hours worth on DVD), check out http://www.twosrus.com They have the "You can run, but you can't HYDE" DVD for sale on there.
Hey Doc, I was wondering, now that u have the manifold sitting in front of you, what do you think about it's construction, materials, etc. from just a visual observation? in the pictures it looks pretty robust. . i know u won't really know till u put it to the test. just curious and anxious!
Actually it is at my mechanics place now ... but ...
The metal seems awesome.
The welds seems substantial.
The design is beautiful.
I am not crazy about the angle of cyl 3 ~ how it comes off so hard. I would prefer a straight shot for an inch or so.
One you stick a finger up into the connector, it does not entirely feel smooth inside. In my mind, I would think you would want that as smooth as possible.
i just bought a tubular stainless manifold and 3" downpipe combo off ebay for $435, which included shipping, from the pictures it looks incredible i will post some photos once i recieve them, as well as seat of the pants improvements,

is that the one from ssautochrome? it looks awsome ...I'm so tempted, but i think I'm gonna wait and see what the Doc's prototype does. If it makes it thru his race season, I think I'll go that way. plz let me know how yours holds up/fits/performs/difference in spool up.....
Unfortunately, this manifold is NOT going to happen.
This piece was designed for use with the CT26 turbocharger, but there are way too many clearance issues with my T3/T4. My compressor housing is simply to large and it is just not going to happen.
well damn... I hope u didn't tear too far into ur engine before finding this out..what do you think about it's fitment to the CT26? and when are they gonna put it out on the market? or are they?
To far in? .... lol, we had everything out. The manifold was bolted to the engine already. He couldn't get the turbo on then
It was designed for the CT26 so there should be no clearance issues there.
I do not if they are available yet or how much.
You would have to contact Berk Technology for that.
hell, sorry to hear that...thats a wasted day's work. but I guess thats the only way to find out..u can send it to me and I'll take care of that for u I thought u mentioned cams in a previous post? are u still gonna go with that?
