JDM/USDM and Buying Question

Hello, first post on the forums. I searched the forums and read a lot... but I coudln't find the answer to my question. I hope I didn't over look it. First, are people swapping the US turbo engines with the JDM turbo engines? How much more of an advantage is it? I know on cars like integras there are large differences in internals on the two markets engines, same engine just a lot stronger. My intentions is to have a weekend car (doubtfully daily driver but possible) that I can have fun in and work on... I really enjoy dragracing. So that will be what I gear the car toward. I live very close to Bristol Dragway (Bristol Motor Speedways Dragstrip). A lot of good drag racing happening there.

I am currently looking at two cars. One is a 91 turbo t-top, leather, new leather on seats, all power options, bomex body kit, engine rebuilding this very second, 49,000 org miles, freshly custom painted, suspention uprades, springs etc. Asking a tad under 9k.

The other is a (apearling stock body, can't tell condition from picture on exterior or interior) 90k on car, 35k on JDM swap (not sure but I assume 3sgte), 3in downpipe, also all power options. There asking a tad under 6k... Again haven't talked to these people but they might come down on price.

If you guys could give me some feedback it would be muchly apriciated... Myself I like the first description. Car looks to be in great condition. If i could verify the 2nd was in good condition I would consider it. Much better price. OK, Have at it... I hope I can get one of these great cars and reside at this forum often. Thanks!

What is your question?? You don't really state one. If you plan on going for BIG power.... it won't matter too much if you go USDM or JDM. Stock vs. Stock... the JDM will be slightly faster.

Both of the cars sound good.... as long as smog isn't an issue.

ditto what ish said...but if your gonna build a car for the track, i would look for something cheaper since your gonna go thru it anyway.stick with 3sgte... I dunno about taking someone elses rebuild. I would need documentation. lots of guys out there claiming rebuild with XXX amount of miles on it..9k sounds alittle hi to me for a '91... I paid 6k for the red one in my signiture with documentation for a new long block newly installed from the dealership

So engine strength is probably the same... What gives the JDM the power advantage stock? Fuel management? Small boost increase? Something other than stock internials right? Thanks!

The JDM turbo's are ceramic as opposed to steel.... this allows them to spool faster than the USDM turbos. Plus there are a lot less emission requirements in japan.
