Ok,I'm back with another little tidbit from my tempermental little MR2.The dome light in this beyotch was nonop so I took it apart, checked the bulbs only to discover all was good with the bulbs. When I had this sucker apart and hanging the damm thing worked so I screwed the bastaaaaad back in the roof.Lo and behold it went back to not working,so's I unscrewed it,checked for loose wires and screwed it back in.Poof!!The bitch don't work,so now's I'm madder than heck and losing my fragile patience. When the dome light was hanging from the ceiling it worked fine but as soon as I screw it back in it won't work...WTF?
maybe the wire it was dangling from has a small break in it. or bulbs look good but there is a small break in filaments that you cant see and they are touching intermittently. i would change bulbs fisrt, since they're cheap and if not solve prob, look into the broken wire senario..
I've just purchased a 1993 Mr2 mkII (T-Bar)...I've always been in love with this car!
The left hand dome light on the ceiling doesn't work - the right one works fine so I suspect the bulb is just blown.
I've done some squeezing, some pulling, some gentle leveraging with a screw driver, but there doesn't seem to be an obvious way of getting the panel off! The owners manual isn't any help - it just shows the unit off without telling you how to actually get it off.
Any help you can give me on how to remove the ceiling light panel would be most appreciated!
I've tried searching all over the net too, but have only been able to find people asking the question without any answers..
I have taken mine off a long time ago... i think it just pops off... i can double check tomorrow and let you know for sure (since i now have two MR2s one for parts and one for driving)
the panel does simply "pop" off..... with some convincing. you'll need to pull in a downward motion from the front of the cover.... the side closest to the windshield.
I FINALLY got a DVOM for christmas.... so maybe I'll check out my dome light situation.
Great, thanks peeps i'll have another go at ripping the panel off in the morning. There is an opening I can fit my fingers in at the side nearest the windshield (where the rear view mirror joins) - I had tried pulling here previously but obviously didn't want to apply too much pressure for fear of damage.
My next post will probably be "Where can I get replacement dome light panels"
