Question help with fitting stereo to mr2?

hello all! was wondering if anyone knew anything about stereos. I have a 1993 mr2 2liter tbar L reg it has a normal single din tape player with a plastic thing below it with toyota written on it. Could i put a double din unit in there place? I was told it was a big job 2 do is this true?. What is the complications in doing this. Do i need any special stereo?

Nope
Your tape deck and the plastic piece underneath are separate. they will screw right out, leavin a rather large space for a double unit. You might have to fab a plastic piece if your new unit doesn't take up the entire space.

First take out your ash tray and under it will be 2 screws. take them out.
Then take off the plastic piece surrounding the shift boot. Then you will be able to take off the entire plastic panel that surrounds the headunit, cig lighter, ignition. This will expose your stock headunit and such.

You will need an adapter harness for your new headunit. It sounds like you do not have the premium sound package that toyota offered for the mkII, so your job will be easier. Have fun.

If I were you, I would get rid of the idea of a double. Who uses tapes anymore?? I have a single disk changer as do most mkII owners.
