Cool Hey all <--New guy

Hey all,

New member here. I don't own an MR2 ...yet. Currently I am running around the block with a 5th gen prelude, but the weight issues/fwd/na/h22a terrible mod response has pushed me to the decision of buying one of my earlier dream cars...a Turbo MR2.

I used to know a good bit back in the day, before I bought my prelude. Unfortunately, Ive forgotten everything. I don't want to make my first thread a noob thread, and ask stupid questions....but I need some advice.

I am looking to sell my prelude for around 9000 give or take. What would you guys do?

I don't want just a straight line MR2...I want to be well rounded with handling and power. I am looking to at least be in the mid 13's if not 12's. My general theory to modding cars is performance based. I am not going to buy a body kit, or anything just for looks.

Potential drifting MR2? I figure this would be hard as hell with the location of the engine, but do people do this? Being a prelude guy, I am in to autox--is there a reasonable mr2 x scene? My screename is OldManTestacles8 (sorry im an immature college student)- if anyone wants to help me out in planning this project out I would be very very very thankful.

I kind of screwed up my prelude by not planning and thinking enough. First I tried to build a custom turbo, scratched that, lost money, then tried to go n20, scratched that, bought some ricer waste of money mods...lost money...

What really inspires me is my best friends S13 SR20 240sx. The power, the performance, its simply amazing. Hes looking at mid 13's right now, and I want to be at least at that level of power. I know the MR2 is dangerous, but I am a pretty skilled driver (autox experienced) and feel comfortable pushing serious numbers on the street. Emissions legal? No, that is not something Im worried about. Ozone shmozone.

Thanks all and wish me luck/help me out as I do a 180 degree spin from a fwd na lude to the MR2.

welcome to TN..what year is your prelude? any mods on it now?
the MR2 turbo is a great platform for building power. but as u know HP is not cheap.
I know alot of ppl say the MR2 is "dangerous, but i don't feel that way. sure it's alittle tail heavy, but like u said a good driver can handle it and take advantage of it.

Welcome to the board. I also had a 5th gen as a first car. But I agree with the poor mod response. I had everything done to it without touching the head or block, and only managed 30 whp and 20 tq out of it. So I upgraded to the MR2 Turbo. It's a good upgrade!

nice to see someone coming back from the darkside(fwd). sw20(2nd gen mr2) definitely have a higher power potential but are heavier that aw11(1st gen). with 2x the hp and only a few hundred more pounds, it is a toss up.
