Red face How Do You Aim At The Crankshaft Pulley?

Trying to adjust my timing on my 91 mr2 turbo, read and understood the directions, except how do I aim the light gun at the crankshaft pulley, and since its all the way down in there, how do I see the timing marks? thnx, JON

There is a timing mark on the crankshaft pulley. Get a piece of white chalk or something similar and mark that spot on the pulley (make a line there). It will show up when you put the light to it which you should be able to aim from straight above (at least on my NA - not sure if there is anything in the way on a turbo).

crawl under the car, feel for the notch on the pulley and mark it with something bright, white or florescent paint, etc.. then u should be able to see it from the top with the timing lite.

I guess I didn't mention all the details but yes, you have to mark it from below by crawling under the car by the rear right wheel. You may have to remove one or so plastic mouldings that protect the area from road grime, etc. I marked the pulley with white chalk and was able to see it from above with the timing light.

And when I mark it, and see it from up top, how do I see the stationary one that needs to be inline with the one on the pulley?

got it, thnx alot,
I hope thats the only reason why my car is choking. noone could figure it out.

When I apply pressure to the gas pedal little by little, the car accelerates fine, but if I floor it, the car chokes/bogs/hesitates (not sure what to call it), so basically my foot has to stay a bit ahead of the engine.
Toyota dealer said turbo needs rebuild, that didn't make sense to me

Yeah it is badly, I haven't done the timing yet, this one mechanic told me that Iridium plugs are too hot for a turbo and I needed to get colder plugs, so I got Bosch platinums and I'm gonna do it all at once 2night....
I don't know, this car is driving me nuts, and I can't find anyone around here that knows about mr2's to look at it...

hesitation could be cause by any number of factors....vac leak...exhaust leak...bad ignition components....how is the car mechanically??..when was the last time a tune up was done and what is the mileage on the car?....

well I replaced plugs with denso iridiums, I got NGK wires, and got an air filter all like a month ago and was doing that before and after, I got a new fuel filter, I did check for a vacuum leak, by tightening all the connections from the air flow meter on to the intake manifold.
The car had 47000 when I bought it, 8 months ago, and now has 54000 and I still couldn't get noone to fix it.

I'm going to a SUPRA specialist to get the spark timing fixed and the plugs replaced with regular NGK's, he said they're better than Denso Iridiums...
And see how it goes...
