curious

im thinkin of buying an mr2 and i wanted to know why all of you chose this car? what are its advantages and disadvantages? how much room do i have to work with in the engine compartment? is the car a bitch to work on? are the JDM swaps really worth my time or can i make a USDM engine better. but if you think i should go with the JDM swap, what makes it better? (give details!) thanks

Here is my personal opinion...

ADVANTAGES-
Turbo'd from the factory
Dead sexy
Rear wheel drive (a must)
Midengine
Iron block
Quite a roomy interior
Decent trunk space
You don't see them much
Toyota reliability

DISADVANTAGES-
Most people wrap them around a pole being stupid
Having only one passenger can suck.... hopefully you will have another car
Engine bay is pretty cramped
Shops like to charge a lot to work on them
Kinda hard to get used to (see... 'people wrap them around poles')
Factory parts take a while to get
t-tops like to leak (fix this by getting a hardtop or sunroof )

Uhh.... all in all they are great cars. Just get used to it before you do anything too crazy. Never drive in the rain with bald tires (duh). If you are going big power.... the JDM engine will have no advantage over the USDM.

same for me... they are very sexy, cool and not many around. tons of aftermarket stuff for them. I am a rear drive man. I love the mid engine handling.. if you're gonna get one, get a turbo to start with..they are kinda cramped in the engine bay, but so are many of the front drive cars too..they're a great platform for building power. Ishcolebo was dead on with the pro's and con's..I have owned 3 and I still have 2 of them...they handle well. you can push the envelope with them, but if you make a mistake, they are not as forgiving as a front engine vehicle..

^^^^ you're ALL right! I honestly chose my mr2 for it's appearance. given it was killed by hail, I saw potential. toyota reliability is great.200K miles on mine. daily driver, 30-35 mpg for me (NA)... just be easy until you are used to it, as stated above... I also stupidly drove with bald tires in the rain... but I rebuilt it... again.
they are getting rare

the mr2 styling has most deffintly stood the test of time. considering no major body changes has ever been made from the 91 to 98 mr2's. the lines are always the same. im more than confident that the mr2 is a project car that will always look good regarless of the trend cars are goin with in the time its in.

yep...I think u can say the 2nd generation MR2 has a "timeless " look. no matter how old it gets, it will still look cool, sexy and racey...
