More Boost?

I have a 91 mr2 turbo, completely stock, and I've seen mixed views on adding more boost to the ct-26. I've seen threads saying they think it is actually slower after upping it to 15 psi because of the way it cuts off power after about 5500. It was a thread about stock turbos by ishcoleobo, so now I don't know if I should crank up the boost. I don't have the money now (and won't for a while) for a new turbo. I must beat my extremely cocky friend's acura when we race (on the strip of course), but I will probably need around 200rwhp to do it. Can intake, mbc, and fcd/boost gauge (of course) get me there? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

how much power do you have now? i dont know about the power drop off at 5500 rpms, but you could try smaller mods. new cams, better exaust, lighter flywheel. I dont know what you have or what you want to try but reply and i'll see what i can do.

It is completely stock, so approx 160rwhp-but I'd really like to know about upping the boost, as that is the cheapest and easiest way to get power I hear.

You don't want to go past 15psi on your stock turbo.... because it will essentially do nothing. If you increase from 10psi to 15psi... you will definately notice a difference. Intake, Exhaust (wasn't on your list... but will definately help if you have the $), mbc (http://twosrus.com is my pick.... used them on my car, sr20, and a 280z... all happy as can be), build an FCD (or I have a built one that you can have + shipping if you aren't too electronically inclined), and get a boost gauge. Stock turbo's are definately good for 200whp... you should be just fine.

If your engine is healthy and your ignition is fresh, with basic mods (intake, exhaust and boost controller) you make 200 whp with the CT26 turbo.

The ct26 is a fast spolling, lower RPM turbo. It can not flow well at high PSIs or high rpms. That is why power falls off after 5500 rpms (roughly).

15 psi is the max efficiency on this turbo. That basically means that going over 15 psi increases the temperature of the air (increasing your chances of detonation) without a significant gain in power.

Basically 16 psi will increase your cahnces of going boom without adding much more power to justify the risk.

Hope that helps.
