5s-fe - Blue smoke when sitting

I noticed if my car sits for more than a day and then go to start it up blue smoke comes out for a few seconds. I have a few assumptions as to why this is happening and was wanting to get your opinions on it (this is a 92' 5s-fe completley stock):

1. Valve Seals warn out?
2. Piston rings being warn out?
3. Running too rich?

The car seems to run just fine, it just smokes for a few seconds when you first start it up after it's been sitting. Anyone else have this problem?

I've been considering doing a turbo swap but I'm still reading up on it. I'm trying to figure out if I should just put a little money into the 5s-fe or spend more and get a rear clip. Anyone know about how much money it would be to do the swap? I'm noob to the MR2 world if you didn't already notice.

its probably the rings. as the engine warms up they expand. so that could be why its doing that. just keep an eye on the oil level.

The blue smoke you are seeing only at start up is from worn valve guide seals. Had the same problem (ran good but smoked on startup only) and replaced them and shaved the head down back to even (slight warp) while I was at it. The smoking bit is a common 5sfe problem on higher time engines.

200k miles on clock, smokes just about three seconds at start-up.... runs great otherwise. just the valve guide seals ... as ^^^ JTL stated above.
JTL: how many miles are on your engine?

As for price of a swap.... would you be swapping a jem/usdm or jdm engine and what generation? a very rough estimate when all said and done is $4500. specifics would help determine a more specific price.

I guess I would first have to ask what are the main differences between the jem/usdm, and jdm engine? Which is the easiest to get? Cheapest? It would be a GEN 2 engine. As far as my 92 N/A, it has 115k on it.

nice! what color are you going with? I had mine all black until my crash... but I rebuilt it and repainted it this past weekend... I have yet to get pictures taken (no camera) but my imagestation page has photos of what it looked like black with the flares on it.

jem/usdm 3SGTE has 200bhp and 200lb/ft of torque.

jdm gen2 has 225 bhp and other than an ecu, is the same as the usdm. (around $2500 for clip only)

jdm gen3 had 245 bhp and has a better cylinder head with improved cooling, lower compression pistons, MAP instead of a MAF and a larger ct20b ceramic turbo. (around 3500 for clip only)

as far as availability, jdm will cost more than a us spec engine, but it will cost more, and be slightly more difficult to locate (but still not very hard at all)

JTL: I have finally "aquired" a camera... so I'll be uploading the current pictures of my latest repairs\paint job.... I don't know why imagestation is being retarded... it's supposed to be a public album... but it's not working. I'll post them in the TN 2nd gen MR2 photo page. http://www.toyotanation.com/photos/s...ry.php/cat/515

better yet JTL... here's my TN gallery:
http://www.toyotanation.com/photos/s...0&ppuser=23072

the hydroplaning bent so much stuff that I just decided not to mold the front nd rear bumpers to the body... it would've just cracked next time it happens! so this way, the bumpers can be removed and swapped with different desings.

I sprayed this in my garage about two weeks ago, I haven't had time to wet sand and buff out the inperfections... but soon enough. I think it turned out better than when it was all black. let me know what the TN crew thinks.

Cool. I like the look but I'm not sure if I could get used to no spoiler. Maybe it could grow on me though. Nice job. Trying to get mine in the shop by weekend and have it out in another week or so. I'll post some pics when it comes out. Is it easy enough to post on the site that you use?

it's actually easier to post them in the TN photo gallery... just look at the top of the mr-2 forum page, there should be a link to it there. you simpy upload them from your computer, then eveyone in the TN can view them. I look forward to seeing how yours turns out.
