USA Engine swap information

Hello chat Im purchasing a 93 MR2 nonturbo. I wanted to know how hard is it to swap a turbo engine into the car? Is it really worth it or should I just turbocharge the nonturbo engine?

The swap is relitivly easy... just make sure you have a complete clip. If you don't have complete clip or a half cut.... you will be hunting for parts and get all confused. It would be cheaper to just start with a turbocharged car first though.

FYI: DROP THE MOTOR FROM THE BOTTOM! I had the worse time trying to do it from the top...

Will I be able to do the swap myself? That is the big question. I also would like to use the AEM stand alone computer for the setup but Im not sure if it would work with the JDM engine.

It'll work with the JDM motor, but I'd be more concerned about doing the swap and getting that to run good before doing any engine management.

Depends on how mechanically inclined you are as far as the swap is concerned!

I did my swap on my own but needed some help getting the motor positioned w/ the mounts.

Okay cool, I also wanted to know will most of the aftermarket parts that are made for the US turbo engine work with the japanese version. A lot of people tell me it wouldn't. I also wanted to get the motor rebuilt. Im planning on making between 400-500 hp. Does anyone know where I can get the main bearings and other internals for that engine from? Any website suggestions. I know www.raceng.com has some.

If someone was to only get the engine, ecu, how hard would the swap be? Do the trannys bolt up the same? Engine mounts line up? Anyone have any knowledge 1st hand? Thanks!

motor mounts will match... i think the trans will too, but id check with others just in case. youll need turbo axles also... it is MUCH better/easier to buy a clip. just ask anyone here.

Thanks for the response!!! Is there anyone in particular I need to ask? I have a friend of the family who can import this engine and ecu, but said nothing of the clip. I have so many questions and would greatly appreciate speaking to someone who has bone this!

I bought most of my parts from www.importperformanceparst.net Instead of searching for individual parts... they sell complete kits... pistons\rods\bearings\gaskets... they have a lot of stuff for 3sgte's and 5sfe's also.

Get a full clip or a half cut.... you will thank us all later. If you don't.... you can expect to go on a long tedious part hunt. You CAN... but wouldn't want to use your NA tranny. It won't hold the turbo engines power for very long.
