is this happening while you're driving or at idle??....my first guess is that maybe an exhaust shield is loose....

if i remember correctly, the 5sfe redlines at 6300 rpm, not 7000. If you are taking your 2.2L 5sfe powered car to 7000 rpm on a regular basis, i can tell you from experience that you will mess up your engine (or transmission). I actually had an exhaust rattling noise that would occasionally occur at higher rpms... i just went up one side of my car and down the other tigtening thiings that were not to my satisfaction until i fixed it.... that probably doesnt help you though.

Grinding could also be the differential in the transmission if it's at 6k rpm. Also, if you have the turbo's 9k (7k redline) rpm tachometer, then you need to change that out for the regular 8k rpm tach (6250rpm redline). AFAIK, the engine shouldn't make a grinding sound, but a knocking sound when the bearings have too much play and the rods are just slopping around.

Check your oil and change out your gear oil in the transmission. If there are any metal flakes in the gear oil, then your tranny is on its way out. If there are any metal flakes in your motor oil, then your rod bearings are shot and you're about to throw a rod and/or damage the crankshaft.

thanks for replying
im guesing that the previous owner must have switched 5sfe tachometer with the 3sfe
also, wat the i have to get in order to bypass the red line?
everything is stock rite now, beside my intake

should i get a turbo or swap the 5sfe engine for a 3sfe w/turbo??
thanks

You must mean the 3S-GTE and not the 3S-FE. The 5S-FE is basically identical to the 3S-FE except that it's overbored by 1mm and has a longer stroke (86mm vs. 91mm). If you want to exceed the redline of the 5S-FE, you'll need a standalone EMS. You'll basically blow the motor up though because the rod bolts can't handle more than maybe 6750rpm and that's being optimistic. There's no point anyway because there's no power that high up there. Actually, there's no power after about 5200rpm.

If you want performance, either do a V6 swap or get a 3S-GTE.
