ok im fixin to buy an mr2 turbo on tuesday. the speedo wasnt working when i drove it today. im curious how far down do you have to have the clutch when starting the 5 speed... i have to mash it all the way into the floor. also not to be flamed or nothin but uhh what kinda problems should i expect if any. its a 91 turbo t-top 5 speed. also do u think 5 grand is too much?
If the speedo isnt working then neither is the odometer... so you really dont know how many miles are on it...
i dont understand what you are asking about the clutch... if your car isnt in gear, then you dont have to have the clutch in at all. It is however a good habbit to push the clutch in on any car before you start it.
sometimes t-tops leak, if you can id suggest pulling up the carpet to see if there is any rust by the seats.
the broken speedo is pretty common im sad to say, could be the gear in the tranny, could be the cable itself...
5 grand... it all depends on the condition of the car... more specifics would help

Yea you do. Every newer car that I know of makes you push the clutch in before you start the car. This includes MKII MR2s... which aren't exactly new... but you get the idea.
well i guess im used to not having to push the clutch in on my 88 supra t but i didnt recall having to have my foot IN the floor in other cars when starting them lol. ok more specifics. there is a small hole in the front bumper which can be fixed for 8 dollars. some clear coat wear and minor paint wear on the back bumper. that sucks that it is a common problem for the speedo, but makes me feel a lil more relieved too. i was thinkin since you said tht heh its a possibility they unplugged it so the odometer would stop rolling. cuz it only has 109405 miles heh is exactly what my 93 camry had. thanks for your responses.
Like Drifting Dane said.... it is most likely just the cable that is broken. Should be a pretty simple fix unless something is screwed up in your tranny.
beware the speedo problem. most are the cable or the exterior parts that "plug-in" to the trans. my car is sitting in the shop b/c my speedo isnt working b/c the gear IN the tranny is too worn for the speedo to work. gear is like $45. labor......well lets say its not cheap to open the trans and split the diff. its also something i would be too scared to try on my own.
yea i was figurin it may be something like aloose wire or something... would tht cause the check engine light to come on? heh imma be sad if its the transmission lol ive been tryin to find one of these for the longest... ive been through a 93 camry, have a 88 supra t currently with bhg heh and if this thing has tht problem lol ill just take the money out of the loan for the mr2 and fix the sup and pay the rest back to th eloan company lol
Pull the codes and it will tell you what the CEL means. Short out E1 and TE1 (might wanna check those.... its the top right, and the one that is one over, one down). Could how many times the CEL flashes and how long the spaces are to reveal one, or multiple two digit numbers. Just read the online BGB under EFI.... it explains it better.
BGB ??whats that? heh right now im gettin kinda weary. i mean i really want this car but am not sure now. lol i may just take the money tht i got from hte bank for it and use it towards a 1jz clip or something for my supe lol.
ok i was wondering cuz the ppl at the lot said the key was broken off in the ignition but i couldnt see anything and the key is kind stubby but doesnt look borken
ok upon reading some old papersa on the vehicle its apparent the speedo hasnt worked for roughly 2 yrs. i was given some paper work by the car lot where im buyin the car from
and tht was supposed to be for an engine rebuild but i havent exactly seen any thing tht says it was for an engine rebuild heh. i figure there were probably 15k miles a yr. so roughly 139k miles on it instead of 109,405. so i figure i will use this to my advantage if i decide i still want the car.. just curious. how are yalls cars performing at this mileage?
it really depends how it was driven... it could be a time bomb, could be great... sorry for the vague answer, but there isnt much more i can say. no proof of engine rebuild, you may as well say it didnt happen. offer them a really low price, and if tey take it good for you, if they dont, you may have dodged a huge headache. try something like 2 grand... then argue from there. J&H paid some minescule amount for his....
t's ok, you tried lol. well i called up the PO and he told me everything tht was queer about the car and what not. i think what they are calling a new engine is a new head. the car was kept in a garage for the most part and he didnt drive it. said it may have accumulated 6-10 miles or so. but nothing major. and i beleive it wasnt driven much from the dirt built up in the bay.. looks like time for a cleanin under there lol. the t-top leaks a lil on the right side but i didnt notice any cuz the interior is in such good condition. the leather is hardly tattered on the sides of the seats heh where as the leather in my supr is destroyed haha. but yea i think imma haggle with em a lil more. i mean im already gettin it a lil less than book value and they are tryin to fix the things that are wrong with it. but thanks for the input. guess the only thing i can do is give it a try.
