hello all,
well i have another question to ask, if my clutch was unable to put down the power to the wheels b/c when i launched in a straight line from standstill my car wasnt accelerating as i had hoped even with the gas pedal all the way down. and when i slowed down, i smelled something burning. did i burn the clutch cuz it couldnt hold it due to slippage? or another problem? this is the second time this has happened, once on stock rims and once now on my new rims
mine does the same thing i dont know if it the clutch or is it the engine- as the cluth dosnt slip a lot, but when i change very fast it dosent have that push / grip of a fresh clutch also when i dup it from standing position it dosent have that sudden push / or tire squeek, it is the clutch ,
I got a n/a 97 model only 80000km on clutch hasent been replaced at all.
does your na have a big jerk when u let the clutch drop or high rpm i mean tire squeek little burnout?? i understand the car has the weight on the back tires which might stop this even with a good clutch ..
You can definitely do a burnout with a stock clutch.
When my NA was working, i stomped people off the line, it was great until those higher rpms...
when i was trying to refine my launch, i had chirped the tires several times before i got it just right... no wheel slipping at all (what you want as you probably already know)
If it feels sluggish, i would replace the clutch. my clutch was great, and to my knowledge it hadnt been replaced in all 120000 miles os its life.
thx guys, well i dont even kno when the clutch was last changed b/c i bought the car about 5 months ago. it might never even been changed and has 143k miles on it. before on my stock tires i could do doughnuts and make the tires squeel under full acceleration. with the 265/35/18 in the back, theres no squeeling but the car wont go =/. ill have to check out the clutch
well mine will only do a bunout in the wet. on the dry it hasent got that hard push to spin the rear tire. i just find it weird that if it is the clutch why dosent it rev out under hard acceleration>.. this makes me think it is not the clutch .. anyway i better change it as i think my mr2 has more power than i am getting , do you recomand the standard toyota mr2 clutch?
If it's an N/A the wheel diameter and tire size are parasitic to performance and thus, will make your clutch and engine work harder to achieve their intended goals.
If it's a turbo, as long as the wheel diameters are proportionate to the amount of power being put out, they should be fine.
I only say this because you said you could do burn outs with your stock wheels. A stronger clutch only goes so far, but if you want to do burn outs with 265/35's, then you're gonna need a healthy amount of torque to get those babies spinning.
mine is an NA 97 model , and yes if i push it hard it smells really bad , so it has to be my clutch hey ??? how much power am i loosing because of this, an if it is the clutch how come the revs do not go out when accelerated the revs should go quickly it dosnt do that,
my car is a 91 N/A that hopes to become a turbo soon . well yea, i do need to change the clutch sometime when i get the money. also gotta change brake pads =/
i kno im losing power but these wheels arent for racing, i planned to get another set just for it and i dont plan to do burn outs wit em. also anyways got a place where i can find a new clutch for my 91 N/A? b/c im having trouble finding one.
