17x7 up front - 205/45 or 215/45, also dependent on wheel offset

17x8 rear - 225/45 minimum up to what your fenders can take, also dependent on wheel offset

There's so many choices.

Are you willing to roll the fenders? or you want what will fit in there without rolling?

to fit wider tires/rims....sometimes you will have to "roll" your fenders to make room....look at your wheel wheel and look at the fender....theres a little ridge there...that part has to be cut away or "rolled" to make some room.....

i have 16 x 8's on my rears....rims are perfectly flush with fenders....with my old tires.....225/45/16s...i had no rubbing issues....when i got the 245/45/16s...i will rub on hard bumps....i will need to get my fenders rolled in the future.....with a 17 x 8 rim and the proper offset...you can prolly get a 235 width and not have to roll the fenders...any bigger and you will have to...

It mostly depends on offset and tire size.

You are looking to get a 17x8, so I assume you want a fairly fat tire in the back. A 17x8 + 38 should fit nicely on the back with a 235/40/17 tire, without any rubbing issues. Of course, it will give it a slightly "tucked" look in the rear. But should still be pretty close to the fenders.

With this rear, the front should get a 17x7 +30 to +40 (anywhere in there should look ok), with a 215/40/17 tire.

Of course, slight changes can be made here and there, depending on brand and what not.

I personally, recommend rolling the rear fender and sticking a 17x9 back there! Looks a hell of a lot better, if you ask me!

Good luck!
Frank

ok here is my other question on top of this....

16" wouldn't look really small on my mr2 rite?

cause i don't want my rims to look shrimpy either...rims are a big investment. once you buy em you can't reallly go back on it ya know?

My 16's come right up to the fender on my 2. I have 225/50's in the rear and 205/50's up front. They fill in the gaps nicely. (Lowered by Sportlines)

How close the wheels sit to the fender is all determined by wheel width and offset! Rim diameter won't play a role there.

If you're gonna race, stay with 16's. If you just want a nice looking set of wheels, go with 17's or 18's. And 18's will fit the 2. Again, it's all in the offset!
