So um...I can't drive...

Made my first run at the track with my 2. Car: 91 turbo, well taken care of. FCD, boost controller at 14 psi, gutted cats, apexi power intake. It's got a full body kit, 17" rims with Sumitomo HTZRII +s: 205's in the front and 235's in the back. And about 30-50 lbs of junk in the trunk. I only got to run it twice, 2.4 60' both times, 15.1 and 15.0 at 93 and 94 respectivley. First run I revved up to 4500-5000 and dumped the clutch...BOOOOOGGGGGGGG. Almost killed the car. Second time, feathered the clutch a bit, but obviously to no improvement. The tires didn't slip AT ALL. Any suggestions to try and drop my 60' to a 2.0, because that's where my biggest problem is.

first of all: lose the 50 lbs in the trunk.

if you didnt get the tires to slip at all... id reccomend launching it hard at least a few times to get the feel for when those larger-than-stock tires lose traction and when they retain it.

A real nice technique for drag racing is:
1. yank up ebrake
2. put car in first, rev it up
3. let out the clutch a tiny bit, to where you can hear the engine losing revs, but you arent moving
4. as soon as the light turns, slam down the ebrake handle and finish letting out the clutch the way you have practiced =)

but this may not be worth the tiny improvement you get in you times versus your clutch life

Don't be discouraged by your first outing. Practice makes perfect.

Your 60' is definitely where you issue is at. A typical Mr2 should be able to hit 1.9-2.1 in the 60 all day. A 2.2 or slower indicates major wheel spin OR major bogging. It sound like you are sure you are bogging.

Your launch rpm is way to low. I would launch at a minimum of 5500, but most likely 6000 with some healthy clutch slip. I launch at about 6300 rpms.
It is much better to get some wheel spin than to bog.

What tire pressure were you running? I would drop them down to 25 psi when you increase your launch rev.

If you have to drive through the water box at your track, do a dry hop to get the water off. Do not do a burnout on street tires.

The absolute best way to improve your 60' is practice, practice, practice.

I am running street tires, and I drove around the water box. I'll go again soon and launch from 6300 and work on a little clutch slipping and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.
