Lets see, 1900 for a "complete" US engine only, and with 100k miles?!? That sounds pretty bad to me... you can get a japanese clip with everything you need for the swap and a lot less miles for 2500, just 600 dollars more.
How extensive is this rebuild you are talking about? new pistons (and rings), rods, crank, cams, valves, gaskets, valve springs, pulleys, cam gears, belt(s)... the list goes on... that motor isnt worth what the seller is asking, let alone worth it if you are going to spend a whole bunch of money to rebuild it... just get a clip and save yourself dollars and frustration.
for the cost of that high mileage motor and the rebuilding it...you could prolly get a chrisk stroker motor for around the same price....how much are you willing to spend....it will cost you at least another 2gs or so just to rebuild....
u can't compare a rotary engine....there are no pistons/rods to replace....it is totally different....do the numbers...do a quick search on how much OEM pistons/rods or aftermarket ones....factor in all the gaskets you will need....arp head and main studs....machine work on the head and block...and it all adds up....
are you looking for just the motor??? if you want to swap, youll need more than just the engine. It is hard to find motors (not clips) for gen 3s. I reccomend you get a clip, i was throwing this stuff back and forth in my head for a while...
1900 4 a 100k motor is . And just like Mrq said it would cost u about 2g or more to rebuild it. http://www.japandomesticmotor.com/ check out that site.u can get the a jdm 3sgte 4 1600 with low mileage staright from japan. Hope this helps and good luck.
try www.mr2warehouse.com (i think that is the website)...they specialize in mr2 clips and misc parts...or pm ischleobo to find out where he got his from....hi russell....
Actually if you're looking for a JSpec MKII MR2 engine, u can get Engine & Tranny(w/ LSD), for $2,000 canadian. Just engine will cost u $1500 or so. There is a place up here around Toronto, Canada where a friend of mine got his engine and tranny for 2k. Engines end up having anywhere btwn 50-70k kilometers on it, you work it out what it is in miles.
He installed it himself, it was a straight bolt on, no hassles.
The neat part about Jspec trannies are, that they come with LSD built in already, and American Turbo ones dont.
So if u want a contact number or somehing just post so, and I'll provide it for u.
P.S. the engine ends up being 1994 Jspec version, another friend of mine got it 2 weeks ago. He's doing swap as we speak.
No it doesn't come with wire harness, as those bastards in Japan are to lazy to disconect it from the car, so they cut the wires. I'm not sure about ECU. As both of them bought Blitz ECUs ($200-600canadian) , which automatically remaps everything and u run, 15lbs of PSI very safely. First friend just upped his boost to 20 then to 25 on stock ECU, and was unbeatable, but had lots of engine problems, like blown head gaskets, and pistons. So I advise you buy a proper ECU for it or, keep boost below 20. You might need tranny bolts as well, not that i think of it, as we were missing those last night while trying to put the damn thing together.
I've had 2 friends of mine buy one alredy and they bought engine & tranny for 2,000-2,500. Engine only is i think 1500-2000. But Jspec tranny comes with LSD so I would suggest getting that.
As soon as he comes back from work i'll ask for the number, I should have it posted by tonight sometime.
Its funny the first friend had his boost at 25lbs for whole summer, everytime anything went wrong with his engine, he would just buy a new Jspec one and install it himself, cause they're so cheap here. Mind you first year he went threw 3 engines. So a proper ECU is a must if u want is as a everyday driver.
