mr2 at 1st gear

hey everyone, im a mr2 noob. very new
just wondering how fast does 91 mr2 nonturbo suppose to go in 1st gear
mine doesnt even reach clos 25m at 5-6rpm.
i also have problem with the clutch, seems to be stiff...gotta force it a lil wen shift fast to 2nd
and goin to 3rd it grinds and also reverse . had to step on clutch for
couple sec for smooth shift. but that has nothing to do with the lag rite?

sounds like your tranny is going....try replacing tranny fluid with GM syncrhomesh for a temp fix....

The max speed for 1st gear is 29mph @ redline (6250rpm). Try adjusting the clutch pedal pushrod play. To adjust the pedal play, get a 14mm wrench, contort your body to fit underneath the pedal area, and unscrew the 14mm nut. Then move the pushrod outward, or to the right, and tighten after using the reverse clutch engagement point check. The latter is when you use the reverse gear without the depressing the clutch until it grinds a little bit, then you gradually push on the clutch pedal to find its engagement point. This is outlined in the BGB. Sounds like it's engaging very close to floor. With this clutch, be sure to sit a little closer to ensure you're pushing the pedal all the way down. It might also be an ACT clutch and clutch cover, as they are known for their low engagement point. I say this because you stated the pedal is stiff, and this is much like mine.
