Once again my budget is limited so i was planning to get KYB struts, (is struts and shocks the same?)
Now....my other question.....
If i get aftermarket strust, do i need to get after market springs?
The mr2 is ridiculously low as it is....i live in NY and gettin on and off parking / driveway ramps is ridiculous and it scraps 2 out of 5 times i attempt to do it at 1/2 mph.
the springs lower my car by 1" from what i read and i can't imagine the damage my baby will endure on the roads of NY.
Not to mention the ridiculous pot holes in flushing and other places in the 5 boroughs. L.I. isn't bad jus have to watch the old ppl, the woman in SUVs, the new dumb ass High School drivers in their mommy's BMW.
If I was hooking up an MR2, the least I would do is the Eibach Pro Kit (springs) and the KYB struts (but they are stiff). If you can afford the extra dough, go with the Tokiko struts.
The tokico sruts are about $100 more, maybe even less if you shop around. I've had both the KYB and the Tokico. Trust me, the extra $100 for the tokicos is definately worth it.
And springs aren't really too expensive. I'd save a little bit, and get some springs a long with it. You'll thank yourself later.

It's more than $100 when you start blowing Tokikos (I've blown 3 and have never blown a KYB).
Also I think the difference is much mroe than $100 on initial cost. I have seen KYBs for as little as $88/each and the Tokiko's only as low as $120 ... which is a $128 difference
.... just take a softer line on the ramps ... a broader angle.
Jekyl is lowerd almost 2" and I have the body kit that realyl brings down my ground clearance and I rarely scrape. And yes, I have had the car through Manhattan several times.

Very good Math, Jeff. All I know is, I've had both (like the tokicos much better). Bought both sets from an EBAY vender. The KYB's were $350 shipped, and the Tokico's were $450 shipped.
I really have no data to say which is better. From my own experience, the KYB's were super stiff. Very harsh on city streets. The Tokico's are much more forgiving.
As for performance, I've driven both on autox. The difference was marginal.

I don't think my KYBs are too stiff. I guess it's all a matter of opinion. I leave them on the softest setting and they are alright. I think I got them on ebay for 250, maybe 350, but no more than that.
I got springs at the same time, Tein S-tech, they were 100 less than the shocks. Have fun puttin' it all on! 2s look even better dropped.
