hey guys, i need some help here.... im planning on getting a lightweight battery, but i need to know the specs of batteries that will work on Gen 2 MR2s.
I was looking at the odyssey ODY-PC680MJT. I think it was meant to be used on motorcycles, and it produces 680 amps.
thanks guys, and if all goes well, ill post pics of before/after and install steps and all that crap (not that its difficult, but mounting might be tricky)
I ran my car into December here and had no problems ... not sure how cold that was.
We got it running again in March of this year, cold again, but not sure how cold.
As long as your wiring is good, got good spark and engine is well tuned, you don't need a big battery to start the engine. It'll be harder to start a high compression engine but MR2 is not high compression.
I'm also running the Hawker 680 - Good battery. I've got several accessories including a beast of an amp and have had no problems. I don't run the stereo without the engine running though.
i read about a turbo'd s2000 once that was running huge boost on 9.5:1 cr and he ran a PC680 like j&h, he also had a full "competition" audio system, whatever that means, and had no problems, however imho, i wouldnt want to lose any weight on the front of these cars being as the engine is in the back, unless all you want to do is drag race

You know ... I thought the same thing almost 2 years ago, then I did my huge diet on Hyde in the winter of '03/04. I lost well over 200 lbs. Almost 3/4s of the weight loss was forward of the driver: removed the A/C, ABS, P/S, fiberglass hood (saved 25 lbs), lighteweight battery (saved 20 lbs) and some other stuff.
Since I hill climb (road race) Hyde, I was very worried about this "unbalanced" weight loss so I went out to an autocross prior to my first hill climb. Guess what?
I have never had an MR2 handle as great as Hyde does now.
(I've owned 11 MR2s in my life).
The weight balance did not make a huge difference to me. I love the way the car handles now. Keep in mind, at the extremes of braking and acceleration, the weight of thecar is going to get thrown forward and backward respectively ~ regardless of where it is at when the car is static.
well that does make me more apt to lose some weight up there (actually I need to lose some wieht myself i weigh 285 damn pounds, gained 50 since football season) lmfao
