if I'm thinking of the same seal... It shouldn't be but like a 20 minute job... but I'm sure the stealership will make it last and last. (sorry)

I'm not sure what seal ur talking about...but, 2-3 hrs labor @ $65.00/hr... I know that sounds like alot of time , but remove throttle body, valve cover, replace seals, (do gears have to be removed-replaced?), replace valve cover, throttle body....thats prolly what the dealer would estimate..

If you have a 5SFE then you can get away without removing the throttle body. If it is the oil seal that is on the camshaft end on the timing cover side, then you just need to remove the plug wires, nuts/wahers on the spark plug tubes, and the valve cover. It will be the intake camshaft but you will need to remove the exhaust camshaft first since it has two gears that are spring loaded. You need to insert a bolt in the serice hole of the exhaust camshaft gears to hold them in place so they don't move. After all the bearing caps are removed (and remember they are numbered to go back in the same spot), then you can remove the intake camshaft bearing caps, etc. The seal should just come off.

The manual says to tap the seal in after you re-insert the camshaft but there really is no room to do it so install it on the bearing surface before putting the camshaft back in. reverse the process to put it back together.

I had to do this a few times and after the third time it took me probably about 1 hour or so to do it. A shop may tear down more than that to get at things. Just wanted to give you an idea of what's involved in case you want to try or so you can talk to the dealer and he won't be able to give you alot of garbage. Good luck.

thanks JTL.... that's exactly what I was trying to say..

if whiteblur owns a turbo, I am unfamiliar with the 3sgte's cam setup.. from what I remember the cams on the 3sgte are not linked together by gearing... they are both driven separately by the timing belt.. the 5sfe's cams are joined by a large cam gear... I'm not sure where I was headed with this.. but... good luck in the repairs whiteblur.
