Question Head Gasket question

About how much can one expect to pay to have the head gasket replaced on a 91 N/A? Does anyone know any good shops to take it to get replaced in the Pittsburgh,Pa area??Thanks.

about a grand <--- rough estimate. labor prices are about $70 per hour....

the gasket itself inst expensive, if you are mechnically inclined (or have friends who are), i would change it myself.

if you do change it yourself, make sure your head/block arent warped. Its a full day project, may be shorter/longer depending on your experience with automobiles.

I just wish we didn't have to pull the cams to remove the head... that's the tedious part for me.

I think a grand is a little steep. I got my friend an estimate on changing the head gasket for his SR20DET from the shop I go to and they only wanted $300.

Are you sure it is the headgasket? Have you done a compression/leakdown test? What are the car's symptoms? Expect to pay around 1G. The Gasket Kit (Engine rebuild Gasket Kit) from Toyota has all of the neccesary parts for the job. If the car overheated, I would also change the thermostat and gasket, Cap and oil filter. Right after the headasket change, change the oil as well as it may contain some coolant that entered the crank case through the broken HG.

I have to agree. No sober mechanic will ever, EVER do this job for $300, unless he is trying to date your sister or something.
