oil brands

Hey all, I hear a lot of talk about some oil brands being better than others bought there really isn’t that much documentation on it. Just wondering what brand oil most of you guys use and if you have heard anything. I hear that the Mobil 1 synthetic is really good for your engine, but it also causes oil leaks. And then I hear that Quaker State is really good but people cant tell me why. Anyways, just looking for some opinions

Thanks, Scott

I've been using pennzoil syntec-10w-40. seems fine. it's one of the cheaper synthetics..I would have thought the synthetics would be good for turbo application. do you advise against it Doc?

lol ... I just advised for the Castrol Syntec ... it's all I run in all my cars.

I suggested avoiding the syntec blend ... which blends synthetic with natural oils.

take some pennzoil between your fingers, it gets kinda sticky, ive done that with several different weights and i dont like the way that it starts to feel, a local shop here wont even use pennzoil unless they get a hardass customer who swears by it, how does it perform in your motor? ive never used it personally. i use straight 30w Valvolinr VR-1 for a while, then i switched to castrol GTX, i think this go around im going to try Quaker states new Q has anyone used it yet?

well ya know it's hard to say if the oil is good. it takes long term use of one kind of oil to know that. I'm not leaking a drop.... engine hasn't locked up....not burning any oil(visibly)...lasts as long as any others I've tried and I have tried many-Quaker State, Pennzoil, Castrol, Mobile One, Havoline...they all have race applications and boast about the greatness..so???? i bought my '95 Tacoma 4x4 brand new and have kept 10w-30 pennzoil in it always. it now has 229,000 miles on it and it runs like new....doesn't leak-at all, no smoke, runs great...

Yeah, Im starting to think most of the main brands have similar performance. You just have to pick one that makes you feel all good inside.

yea, but word of mouth from people u trust and know what they're talking about is worth alot. Doc J&H puts Hyde thru more than you and I ever will. so I take his advice/suggestions seriously. I may switch to castrol now. It's just that they're one of the more expensive brands...ouch
