Question Air Intake Question

If you get an aftermarket Air Intake Filter does water(rain)get in the filter and if it does would that harm the engine?I know it may seem a stupid question but the stock Air Filter is encased in a plastic box whilst an aftermarket AF just has the filter hangin in da breeze.Thanks.

I have never heard of anybody having problems with this. Your filter should not be getting that wet anyways. A little bit of water wont really affect it because the water will end up getting evaporated before it ever gets to the pistons anyways. But if you have some setup where the filter is getting completely soaked, then you might have a problem.
Also, I have heard of people purposely putting small amounts of water into their intake through a vacuum line becuase it helps clean out carbon build up. I guess the water turns to steam extremely fast as long as your car is warmed up.

yeah, kinda like water injection. but your right stgranger, unless it's just a shit load of water, it'll never make to combustion chamber. if the filter was in the front grill like a front engine car, that would be a different story.AEM does sell a bypass that goes in the intake tube to prevent water from getting in there.. they're not very much..like $40.00.

i had a cold air intake on my two (NA) and it was right next to the drivers side side scoop. it was about 3 inches inside of the vent. the only time i had problems was when i went to wash my car with a pressure washer and didnt cover my intake filter. you shouldnt have any trouble unless your filter is right next to the ground.
