Cool

1) Clean battery post terminals with a brush and water+baking soda EVEN IF THEY LOOK GOOD
2) Test the battery
3) Replace the starter, the solenoid is more than likely shot
4) Replace alt.

I just went through the exact same thing.... I had to constantly rough uo my terminals to get a good conection... eventually that didn't even work. last weekend it wouldn't start.. I messed with the terminals, still nothing... so I got a jump-start from the work truck... fired up... but then i turned the wheel.. and the voltage dropped and killed the car. so I got another boost. drove home carefully... and swapped the battery from my subaru (new battery) into the duece.... works great! hasn't happened since. I still thougt my battery was good... but apparently not. get that checked out.. or, if you KNOW it's good (already tested it) pull the starter and test it manually... supply power to it, and see if it extends and turns.. and then retracts...

from what you're describing I'd say it's either your battery, or the connection to the battery....

i had a similar problem but i was just being an idiot. i didnt make sure the terminal was shielded from the spare sitting on top (that little protective thing was pushed to the side). the tire was then touching both the + and the -

yeah... I'd say time for a new battery... especially if the lights are dimming when you turn it on... does your "buzzer" sound pansy style when the door is open and you insert the key into the ignition??

best bet is the starter, the solenoid sounds hooped. Next time it dies, don't push start it, just beat the starter with a hammer a couple of times. If it starts right away afterward, the starter is worn out. They usually come to rest on one of 3 points after every time you fire it, these points then get worn over time and a slight jarring, like the hammer, will move it slightly and get the brushes connecting again. Or get the solenoid to free up.
