ct-26 upgrade?

Hey guys. As most of you know, I am lacking in the money dept. I want a little more power out of the car until I can afford a larger turbo upgrade and supporting mods. I can get this: Fully rebuilt ct26 turbo with 46 trim upgrade for 300 dollars(has a few thousand miles on the rebuild). The guys motor took a shit on him so he's parting it out. I was just wondering what you guys think of this. Is it worth a temp. fix for a little more power. I'm not looking for huge gains, just a little extra power in the butt dyno. I'd still run the same boost I'm running(15). Would this still be alright? Or should I turn it down w/ the upgrade. Thanks guys.

Current mods:
apexi intake
apexi gt spec exhaust
fidanza flywheel/spec stage 2 clutch
2s r us mbc

I'll also probably gut the primary cat out while installing the turbo.

Joel

You aren't going to notice much of a difference. Maybe a little more lag. I wouldn't spend $ on it.

well I think my turbo may be starting to go out. I'm gonna check it for shaft play and all later, but it's really wierd driving it. It'll register 15psi but seems very laggish. Almost like it's holding back. My vac also drops down to 25 in gears off the gas. MY understanding is that is should be around 20, which it normally is. I'm gonna check all my vac lines and hoses. And check the intercooler hoses for leaks or anything. I might get this turbo now lol.

i was told by the guy i brought it from that with the clutch in it should be around 20. From what he told me, any lower you probably have a leak. He had just replaced the rubber connector on the intercooler pipes b/c the vac was low and this solved it.

hmmmm I'm thinking about just picking up a ct20b for a little more and calling it a day. What's a good amount of boost to run on the 20 w/ the mods I listed above? I'm too lazy to search MR2oc right now lol

Well.... first you need to disable your fuel cut. Then I would run like 15psi.

i thought 93's and up didnt kick in to 16? I'm running 15 right now and now hitting fuel cut. Unless that's what's happening now.

What is happening now??? You will know if you are hitting fuel cut.... the car will basically just shut off and throw a CEL. You have to shut it off, then back on to get it going again. Kinda feels like hitting a wall.

I kinda thought the 93+'s were set at 14psi.

i've been running 15 psi no problem. I'm def. not hitting fuel cut. It just seems like the car is holding back. When it's floored it accelerates slowly, not like it's suppose to. It only does this sometimes, other times it pulls normaly and fine. Not sure, I thought it was a vac leak, but I checked most of the hoses and there weren't any leaks. I'm at 71k and the tuneup was done at 60k. What else should I check/replace. I'm reading through the current thread on mr2oc about someone having similar problems too.
