Has anyone ever replaced an antenna wire for the 91 model where it is above the drivers door??I need to replace mine and was wondering if anyone has ever done such a thing, any sugestions would be appreciated on the best way to do it,thanks.
It doesn't have a rear antenna, only the rod one over the drivers door. The previous owner of the car somehow cut the antenna so that i don't have anything to plug into the back of the radio.
hmmm I wasn't aware that an usd mkII didn't come with a rear spoiler antenna. I think the previous owner must have shaved the rear antenna. I think he/she had an aftermarket stereo and swapped it out when you bought it. Well.... dunno what to tell you. My advice to you is to buy an aftermarket disc/mp3 player, then get satelite radio if you absolutely need a radio. Rewiring the stock deck is a real hastle.

what lame advice. assinine too! lazy. no skills. sorry, how would you get traffic info? you would actually pay more money for your sloth-like ways?
i guess i should know better since you live in Manasscrack.
man, it takes just a little bit of patience to R&R a pillar mount antennae. just feed it through. it comes out near the kick panel

Thanks for your positive remarks bro and I truly appreciate your remark about where I live. You get the mature award of the day. For one, the antenna he is refering to is a secondary antenna. Two, he doesn't know what the previous owner has attempted/done to the stereo. I had a similar situation with my rear antenna when I bought my mkII 5 years ago. The guy reinstalled the stock stereo when he sold it. It was a nightmare to figure out what he did. So... I bought a new deck, highs, mids, sub and amps, not to mention built my own sub enclosure. And yes, I wired and installed everything myself. If you want premium sound, you have to be willing to pay for it.
Do not give me that crap about being lazy and having no skills. Do not knock a mechanical engineer who has been taught electronics.
oh you've been taught electronics. i have my electronic credentials as well. seems your 'positive remarks' are what spurned my reactioanry remarks. i'm glad i won an award today! oh goody! if i want premium sound, i go and create a plan and execute it...yeah, so i have had cars go to the Georgia masters and i was an IASCA judge long ago. i don't pay for it.

Do I sense sarcasm?? Yes, I've been taught electronics, IC engines, and a lot more subjects you would never even begin to understand. My "positive remark" comment was directed at your reaction to my post, not the other way around big guy. And congrats for winning the award, you can put it right next to that non existant trophy that you won at the GA masters. right back at ya.
How long ago are we talking about? Can one assume that you are middle aged or perhaps older?? I'm afraid not, seeing your prevalent imature comments and reactions to this thread.
Skybandit asked for suggestions, so I gave a suggestion to replace his stock stereo system like most mr2 owners do. It is easier than figuring out what the previous owner did, and he will appreciate the better sound quality produced from an aftermarket system. Forums are to inform and advise, not to criticise ToyTechGeek. Do us all a favor and stop commenting on people's posts and give Skybandit step-by-step directions (including the proper wire color) so that he can fix his problem. This should be a relatively easy task, seeing that you have electronic credentials, have judged audio contests, and have sent a car to the GA nationals.
sarcasm you do sense, young padawan. first thing's first; NEVER assume. you so underestimate others: that is another downfall. subjects i wouldn't understand? in enginnering? i doubt it. yes, i've dabbled in fluid dynamics and other things such as metallurgy and such. electronics? yes. but subjects i wouldn't understand...where i don't claim to be an expert in anything, i certainly wouldn't dismiss my abilities. i try to remain a student in every life situation because once one stops learning, one begins to die. you are so sure that i don't have other areas of education that you have not explored or attained degrees of mastery.
so, you assume i sent one car there. hardly. GA masters is but one achievement that is in a tiny corner of my life experience where mobile electronica was an interest, not some sort of lifestyle.
my age...ah, does it matter? once again, you assume...
i jumped into this thread after reading the completely retarded comments made by YOU. and, oh yes, i AM a big guy...not the fat, sweat from eating icecream in the summertime either.
go rest yourself.

I'm so sorry about all of this childish banter from someone who will remain nameless.
Here is a link of a how-to guide for the mkII stereo system. Read this and it will hopefully help you out. There is a section close to the end called "Adapting the antenna" that will give you a better idea what to do.
