Possible clutch problem?

ok tonight i fixed my VTV hose which was broken and went for a drive. i was boosting it around for a while and everythings fine. no studdering or evident loss of boost between shifts. but on the way home i'm just crusing with a friend and he starts boosting his evo so i try and follow. in 2nd gear i floor it and my car is revving fine and boosting at max but i'm going sooo slow. i slowed down and tried it agen and the same thing happens. before i did that i had dumped clutch like a real ass. my friend who was in the car with me cllaims the clutch is getting too hot and it has happened a few times in his civic, so he says to just keep it in one gear as long as possible and cruise. so i do so and drop him home. on the way home i boost it from 1st to 2nd to 3rd with no problems. the car pulled nice and hard like it normaly does. now what do u guys think the problem might have been other than a clutch getting too hot, has anyone else experienced this? never agen shall i be such a prick and drop clutch in my baby.
