ok i was drving down my street and saw a "85' MR2 5speed" for sale for a grand. This Filled me with fantasy's and ideas so i tried looking up the "4AGZE" but every Engine Site i go to says' that the 4AGZE (not saying what model or anything) is for 86-90 MR2's. Now i'm not sure if that's when the models changed or they made changes to it but the 4AGZE should still fit, they're the same engine just with the extra space taken for the supercharger.
The 85 didn't come with a 4agze. The supercharged model was only made in 88 and 89. As for dropping a 4agze into your NA MR2.... it can be done fairly easily if you are okay with cars. If you get a completely clip with wiring harness, engine, tranny, axles, ecu.... etc.... you should be just fine.
^ Since your the new MKI expert..... I'm going to be talking to you a bunch here soon. My MKI is almost ready to drive.... just a few more odds and ends to pull together.
I need to make a custom intake and adapter (adapter will be the hard part)
Install distributor
install exhaust manifold and b-pipe
bolt down fuel rail
find where all the misc vac lines and plugs go (thats where you are going to come in )
Is that it? Man hit me with something harder, like how to swap in paseo gears into your c52 in your garage with less than 10 tools . The adapter depends on what type of filter your planing to use. Vacuum lines and misc. i can send you a few diagrams (Some of wich by the way are NOT shown on the Haynes manual). Let me know
I've got a JDM high compression 4age (no tvis and all that nonsense). I need to know where all of the vac lines off of the intake plentum go.... and also the ones that come off of the intake manifold and point towards the motor.... above the fuel rail. Also.... what is the little sensor that is on the stock intake box.... it has to vac lines and one plug on it. Do you have AIM??? hahhaah
OH YEA.... forgot to mention. With this particular car..... I am 100% ready to ghetto rig anything that comes along.
It Has AC!!?? That little sensor is probably the VSV (vacuum Switching Valve) part of the idle up system. Here is a simple diagram for the vacuum hoses from the throttle body and coolant pipes:
Hmm So a JDM high comp 4age... what are you planing to do with it?!! I have no diagrams for the rest, just know them by heart. I will see if i can draw a custom connection diagram for those (Including the VSV) and post it.
Nice, this gets even more interesting. Give me a day to design a working diagram (I've been wanting to do this to my MK1 as well). Can you send me all the specs you have about the engine? It shoudn't be hard to re-route some of these hoses.
I dont know a whole lot. I picked the car up for $100, no keys, no pink slip (yet). Had to tow it out.... but it has basically come together over the last couple weeks as my friend had a parts car.
Here is what I know....
4AGE
1.6L
16 valve (it's not a 20v)
Has higher compression than the USDM motor
NO TVIS
NO EGR
I am using the following USDM parts...
Distributor
Injectors
AFM
Entire exhaust from the manifold back
Coil/ignitor
I may have to ship you out here to help me finish this thing off. I need it mobile before Aug. 5th.
What about the ECU? Man you live all the way up there? That's some drive hehehe.
There is one hose that comes from the check valve below the plenum that will need intake vacuum after the AFM and before the TB. But then again there's no TVIS here so you may not even have that. I'd put the engine together, distributor/ignition components, bolt-ons and go from there. I will look at some diagrams and my own engine tomorrow (Today) and come up with a possible circuit. It would be much easier if I could see the problem in hand of course. Let me know.
I'm moving to Santa Clarita on the 5th... but I want to get it running before then so I don't have to tow it AGAIN!
I assume that the ECU is jdm as well..... but it looks just like the usdm one, so I'm not sure. It just says 4AG, Manual transmission.

I do have that.... and it is connected to something on the left side of the engine bay. But it is kind of a T on mine. One is a larger hose that goes to the left side of the engine bay.... the other is a small one that is disconnected right now.
